Areas of Practice
At Mark Rush Williamson, PC, we represent clients in a full range of family law matters, including:
- Divorce — If you’ve read this far, it’s been over for some time and you need to talk to us about how to start a new life.
- Child Custody — It is important to set personal issues with your spouse aside when working through custody and visitation matters. We help clients make rational decisions and encourage them to put the children first and foremost, where they belong.
- Child Support — The money is for the children, even if you don’t need it. Texas statutes set minimum child support guidelines based on income and expenses. There are certain situations in which a deviation from the guidelines may be appropriate, but it is important to provide a sufficient amount based on your child's needs.
- Modifications — Life happens and situations change, right? Fortunately, child related decisions are not written in stone. Job changes, children’s needs, remarriage are some of the reasons you may need to revisit child support, visitation, or even custody.
- Dividing Assets — Assets acquired during the marriage are considered marital property. This includes retirement plans, stock options, and all manner of other property.
- Asset Valuation and Classification Issues — It sounds simple, but you have to know what you own and what it’s worth before you get to the question of what is a fair settlement. With an education and background in tax accounting and law, we can help.
- Hidden Assets — When going through a divorce, both parties must disclose all assets and income. If you suspect that your spouse is hiding assets, we have resources to help locate them.
- Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements — A prenuptial agreement, also known as a prenup, is a document that, if prepared correctly, will protect your assets in the event of a divorce. We have the sensitivity and knowledge to assist you with preparing a comprehensive prenuptial or postnuptial agreement.
- Termination of Parental Rights — A person may voluntarily terminate his or her parental rights, or a court can order the termination of parental rights. Most terminations arise in the context of a stepparent adoption but others arise from the harmful or neglectful actions of a parent.
- Parental Relocation / Move-Aways — Whether the child can move out of Texas depends on the reasons. A new boyfriend won’t cut it. A job relocation may.
- Stepparent Adoption — We love these cases. Building families is our favorite practice area. The process is not expensive, nor does it take years to finalize.
- Paternity Actions — Are you really the father? If not, we can help make sure you don’t support another man’s child for the next 18 years.
- Fathers' Rights — You may be surprised at how often we successfully help fathers get equal time and rights to their children, and in some cases, full custody.
